There was one time as a child when I spirited away some of my eldest brother’s cologne. I went to a ceramics class where some girls remarked that I smelt like a popular guy that they admired. They mentioned his named which prompted me to confess that he was an older brother. I became the focus of their attention and the recipient of their cuddles for the remaining class time. I will never forget the power of attraction that cologne afforded!
The scriptures speak about a sweet aroma that should be spread by believers.
“But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and manifests through us the sweet aroma of the knowledge of Him in every place (2 Corinthians 2:14).” – NASB
.
The picture of a military leader or emperor leading a procession through the streets of Rome after a military campaign is referenced here. White horses, trumpets, scattered flowers and burning incense were a part of the scenario. Those who follow Christ are being led by our leader the Christ in a procession of triumph. We spread the sweet aroma of the knowledge of Him.
One day while waiting to visit Sister Maggie in the E.R., a nurse came through like they do on the airlines and sprayed the corridor/hall. I was one of several persons in the vicinity. Whether this was something that they did normally was not, and still is not, known to me. I do not think that the action was motivated by us visitors (smile). Later, as I was walking in the K-mart “West” parking lot, two women passed me and remarked about how nice I smelt. I was not aware, at that point, of any odor on me whether good or bad. I had simply been in the place where the fragrance had been diffused. The fragrance had lingered on me and was attractive and endearing.
Those who spend time with the Master and follow Him spread a sweet aroma that is often attractive to others. Let us all endeavor to spread the fragrance of the knowledge of Christ by our words, actions and reactions! Whose cologne/perfume are you wearing? Is it that of our brother Jesus?
Blessings always,
