Trust Him! God will take care of you!

After the two hurricanes in 2017, persons in our congregation were given the opportunity to pray and or to testify about their experiences during or after the storms. One lady remarked that she and especially one of her grown daughters were terrified!  What was remarkable about her experience is the way that she seemingly disparaged the attitude and posture of her husband who, after securing their property as best as he could, went to sleep. He was tired and there was nothing more for him to do but trust God. I commended him! He reminded me of Jesus!

Jesus in the storm…Matthew 8:24-26 “Suddenly a violent storm came up on the sea, so that the boat was engulfed by the waves; but Jesus was sleeping. 25 The disciples went and woke Him, saying, “Lord, save us! We are perishing!” 26 “You of little faith,” Jesus replied, “Why are you so afraid?” Then He got up and rebuked the winds and the sea, and it was perfectly calm.…”(from the Berean Study Bible).

I often challenge people with a question I adopted from one of my buddies when I was in Jamaica. “Why pray when you can worry?” The italicized words ought to be switched of course. We should prepare, pray, then rely on His promises and provision as we face the height of the hurricane season and any other season that seems foreboding. Worrying is actually a sin for the Believer.

In closing, allow me to offer or remind all of us of two of the compound redemptive names:

Jehovah-Shammah means Jehovah/the Lord is there. This name is a reminder to the redeemed that He will never leave us nor forsake us. His presence is with us (Ezekiel 38:35).

Jehovah-Rohi means Jehovah/the Lord is our Shepherd. He will lead guide, protect and provide for us (Psalm 23).

The prophet Isaiah could say with confidence and so can you; “Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. For the LORD GOD is my strength and my song, and He also has become my salvation.”

Trust God. He will take care of you!

Blessings always,
