Class Reunion Island Tour
Ruthlyn’s Views on the Island Tour
First, let me say thank you to our Tour guide, Mr. Sweeney for being very knowledgeable of the island and its rich history. The entertainment, music and pop quiz kept up all engaged.
The tour was fun, I really enjoyed it. I learned things about the island I never knew. I got to experience a small portion of the rich history the island has to offer.
The first stop The Bypass I got a really good view of the beautiful town of Christiansted. It was my first time at the bypass and the scenery was great. It makes getting into the town so much easier.
The Second stop, Botanical Garden, was an eye opener for me. I was surprised to learn that the Botanical Garden was a slave plantation. It gave me a short history lesson. I was able to see the outdoor kitchen, the slave quarters and the beautiful plants, flowers and most of all the fruits trees was awesome, the array of colors was captivating. Being able to pick some of the fruits and leaves from the trees and learn of the medicinal benefits was great. I Felt like I was on a school, class trip. (Oh, I Was Class of “79”) (smile)
The third stop Cruzan Rum Distillery, I did not tour the facility, but I was able to sit in the beautiful lounge areas and wait for classmate that took the tour. Some of my classmates even got to pick plum for the grounds.
The fourth stop, (Lunch) Turtle’s Deli, Mr. Sweeney, had it all taken care of, he took and place the orders electronically so when we arrived the tasty sandwiches and salads were ready.
The fifth stop. Fredericksted Fort I did not tour the fort.
The return to Christiansted with the old school music pumping and we dancing and waving was nice I really felt like a tourist.
Lastly, thank you to the class of “79”. The committee did an awesome job. Blessing all
