INTRODUCTION
The Step OutWalk Project is a fundraising initiative a way to create awareness about the effects of diabetes on the St. Croix community. Diabetes does not discriminate by gender or age. Today, because of poor choices in food and inactivity, Juvenile diabetes numbers are on the rise and more and more adults dependent on medicine to control their A1C. Velda Hughes Greenidge, the Vice-President of CHS Class of 1979 Alumni Association, has been progressively weaning off of her medication and is dedicated to sharing how she did it. According to Velda, “Prior, I was taking insulin at night and pills during the day I was off the insulin the first year I was diagnosed due to changing my diet and exercising. Now, I am happy to announce that I will be re-evaluated in December 2018. At that point, if my A1C results are the same or less, I will be taken off the pills” She wants to empower others to take a proactive stance and engage in behavior that will help them take control and live a healthy life.
Participating in the Step Out Walk is an experience you will never forget. You will be joining the CHS class of 1979 who share the same passion to fight diabetes. You will be helping people in your community who live with this disease every day. With your help, we can to raise awareness about diabetes and support the life-saving research.
