“Man, you’re driving me to drink!”

I well remember the first time that I heard that saying. It was in the context of a staff meeting having to do with important paperwork that was overdue. I was guilty of being behind. I never forgot the embarrassment and shame that I felt even though the boss was being pleasant and supportive as he made the comment.

It was a difficult time in my life. Making ends meet, making car payments, providing for family while being husband, dad and counselor were all very overwhelming. Perhaps you can identify with the sense of being overwhelmed by the demands and challenges of life.

Not surprisingly, it was also a spiritual low in my life. My holy habits were in disarray. I was not spending enough time with God and the results were painfully obvious. Holy habits include Bible reading and studying, praying, fellowshipping, worshipping and witnessing.

When or if you ever find yourself in a similar situation, then hit the reset button that is located on your knee/s. Return to the One who promises to be our help (Psalm 121:2). Get back in touch with our Creator -Redeemer. Read Hosea 6:1-3. Repentance is necessary for recovery.

The process of recovery will then ensue. Having gotten reconnected, God will help us put things together again. It is a process. Let God do His good work in and through you. Keep moving. Things will get better.

God can and will renew your strength. He can turn our mourning into dancing (Ps. 30:11-12). He will renew our faith, restore our joy and dry our weeping eyes as the song-writer tells us (“Take Me Back”).

The following hymn  (vss. 2, 3 & refrain) provides a wonderful and insightful summary:

He Giveth More Grace

When we have exhausted our store of endurance,
When our strength has failed ere the day is half done,
When we reach the end of our hoarded resources
Our Father’s full giving is only begun.

Fear not that thy need shall exceed His provision,
Our God ever yearns His resources to share;
Lean hard on the arm everlasting, availing;
The Father both thee and thy load will up bear.

His love has no limits, His grace has no measure,
His power no boundary known unto men;
For out of His infinite riches in Jesus
He giveth, and giveth, and giveth again.

Blessings always,
